Our aim
The standard we build to
We aim for this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. That means you should be able to:
- zoom the text to twice its size and use the site without content running off the screen;
- move around the whole site with a keyboard, including the menu, the services list and the WhatsApp form;
- use the site with a screen reader, with headings in order, labelled form fields and text descriptions of photographs;
- read text with enough contrast against its background;
- use the site with animations switched off, by setting your device to reduce motion.
What we did
How the site is built
Every page has a link to skip straight to the content, a clear heading structure and visible focus outlines for keyboard users. Colours were checked for contrast when the design was set, and smaller red text uses a deeper shade so it stays readable. Tables have headings for each row and column, and the questions and answers on our pages use standard expanding sections that work with assistive technology.
Known limits
Parts that are not fully accessible
- Maps. The maps showing the area we cover are visual. Each has a text description, and the same places are listed as text links on the page, and in full on our areas page.
- The survey form. The enquiry form is provided by our customer system inside a frame, so we cannot change all of its markup. If it does not work for you, contact us by email at info@forgeskylightsbirmingham.co.uk or on WhatsApp at 07880 284133, and we will take your details that way.
