Who we are
The business responsible for your information
This website is run by Forge Skylights Birmingham, which installs and replaces skylights, rooflights, roof lanterns and roof windows for homes in Birmingham and up to 30 road miles around it. We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy. We work from the homes we visit and have no public premises.
You can contact us about anything in this policy by email at info@forgeskylightsbirmingham.co.uk, by phone on 0121 405 2174, or on WhatsApp at 07880 284133.
What we collect
The information we hold and where it comes from
- Enquiry details you enter in the survey form: your name, phone number, email address, postcode and what you need.
- Messages you send us by email or WhatsApp, including anything you choose to include, such as photos of your roof.
- Survey and job records: your address, measurements and photos of the roof and the room, the options we quote, what you choose, and the paperwork for the job, including Building Control records where the work is notifiable.
- Payment records for work we carry out, as needed for our accounts.
We collect this information from you. We do not buy contact lists, and we do not use this website to build profiles of visitors.
Why we use it
What we use your information for, and our lawful basis
| Purpose | Lawful basis under UK GDPR |
|---|---|
| Replying to your enquiry and arranging a survey | Steps you ask us to take before entering a contract |
| Writing your quote and carrying out the work | Performance of a contract with you |
| Building Control notification and completion records | Legal obligation, and performance of the contract |
| Keeping accounts and tax records | Legal obligation |
| Dealing with a guarantee claim or a complaint | Performance of the contract, and our legitimate interest in resolving it |
We will only send you marketing messages if you have asked to receive them, and you can stop them at any time.
Who sees it
Sharing your information
We share your information only where it is needed to do the work you have asked for or where the law requires it. That includes:
- the provider of the enquiry form on this website, which stores the details you submit on our behalf;
- WhatsApp (Meta), if you choose to message us there, under WhatsApp's own terms and privacy policy;
- our email and hosting providers;
- the building control body that handles the notification for your job, which may be your local council or a registered building control approver;
- the manufacturer of the unit you choose, where an order or a product guarantee needs your address;
- our accountant, and HMRC where required.
We never sell your information. Where a provider stores data outside the UK, we rely on the safeguards UK law requires for that transfer.
How long
How long we keep it
If you make an enquiry but do not go ahead, we keep your details for up to two years so we can answer any follow-up questions, then delete them. If we carry out work for you, we keep the job records for the length of our 10-year workmanship guarantee and for six years after the end of the tax year in which the work was paid for, whichever is later, so we can honour the guarantee and meet our accounting duties.
Your rights
What you can ask us to do
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, object to our using it, and ask for it in a portable format. Some of these rights depend on the lawful basis we rely on. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
